Spain Condemns 'Unacceptable' Israeli Actions Against UN Facilities

Spain has strongly condemned what it terms "unacceptable aggressions" by Israeli security forces against facilities belonging to the UN agency for Palestinian refugees (UNRWA). The Spanish Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued a statement on Wednesday denouncing "unacceptable violations" at sites including the UNRWA Vocational Training Center in the West Bank and facilities in the Shu'fat refugee camp in East Jerusalem.

The Spanish government "categorically rejects" these actions and "urgently calls" on Israel to adhere to international law. It reminded Israel of its obligations, particularly as an occupying power, and referenced the International Court of Justice's advisory opinions. This condemnation highlights Spain's firm stance on the conflict and its commitment to international legal frameworks.

Furthermore, Spain reaffirmed its "firm support" for UNRWA and the "full implementation of its mandate." The statement emphasized that UNRWA's work is "essential" for addressing the needs of the Palestinian refugee population and for achieving a "just and lasting peace in the region through the implementation of the two-state solution." The condemnation follows Israel's seizure of an UNRWA complex in East Jerusalem, where it plans to build a school, an action that UNRWA reported involved armed vehicles and over 50 Israeli security forces.
