Spain to Aid Bolivia in Fight Against Organized Crime

Bolivia is set to bolster its efforts against organized crime through a new agreement with Spain's Foundation for the Internationalization of Public Administrations (FIAP). The memorandum, signed by Bolivian Interior Minister Marco Antonio Oviedo and Spanish project chief María Antonia Diez García, formalizes support for a European Union project.

This initiative, which has seen previous phases since 2016, aims to bolster the capabilities of Bolivia's police, public ministry, and judiciary in combating organized crime. Diez García explained that police forces from Spain, Italy, and France will contribute through training focused on drug trafficking, illicit enrichment, and human trafficking.

For that, this document is signed, so that the EU's financing is backed by the responsibility of the Ministry of Government, in this case of Bolivia, to contribute to making this institutional strengthening effective in the fight against organized crime.

The project will also focus on strengthening joint investigation teams by improving their management and providing necessary tools. Diez García emphasized that the EU's funding will be supported by the Bolivian government's commitment to ensure institutional strengthening is effective. The agreement also seeks to foster relationships between Bolivia's Interior Ministry and its counterparts in France, Spain, and Italy.

He noted Bolivia's existing collaborations with countries like Brazil and the United States, and acknowledged the significant support offered by the EU.
