Sri Lanka’s expressways earn more than 400 million rupees during holiday week

Sri Lanka’s expressway system collected more than 400 million rupees in a single week during an extended holiday period, according to a senior official of the Road Development Authority.

The network recorded more than 350 million rupees in revenue during the five-day holiday period from August 26 to 30. Between August 24 and 30, 1,095,895 vehicles used the Southern Expressway, the Colombo Outer Circular Highway, the Colombo-Katunayake Expressway, the Central Expressway and other roads in the system.

The busiest day was August 25, when 169,215 vehicles travelled on the expressways. The highest daily revenue came on August 26, when 165,847 vehicles generated 63,322,215 rupees.

Daily traffic from August 24 to 30 stood at 154,509, 169,215, 165,847, 140,254, 164,047, 160,095 and 141,928 vehicles. Corresponding revenue was 54,091,645, 60,507,330, 63,322,215, 53,361,965, 61,722,600, 61,393,320 and 54,193,815 rupees.
