Sri Lanka: Two directors apologize for misconduct before parliamentary committee

Two directors from Sri Lanka's Construction Industry Development Authority have formally apologized to a parliamentary committee following allegations of inappropriate behavior during a meeting. The incident, which occurred during a session of the Committee on Public Enterprises (COPE) on October 8, 2025, led to the matter being referred to the Committee on Ethics and Privileges.

The COPE committee had noted that one of the officials attended the meeting dressed in attire unsuitable for the occasion, deviating from established dress code norms. Furthermore, both directors were reported to have left the committee meeting without obtaining prior permission from the chairman, an action deemed contrary to parliamentary traditions and procedures.

Summoned before the Committee on Ethics and Privileges on February 17, 2026, to answer charges of contempt of parliament, the two directors sought forgiveness for their conduct. The committee chairman, Dr. Nishantha Samarawira, accepted their apologies, bringing a resolution to the disciplinary matter.
