State says evidence supports charges

Fiji's State has declared that ample evidence exists to proceed with charges against former Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama, ex-Attorney General Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum, and former Health Minister Dr. Neil Sharma. The assertion was made by Assistant Director of Public Prosecutions Laisani Tabuakoro during submissions on the defense's no-case-to-answer applications.

Tabuakoro argued that the prosecution has successfully presented evidence that addresses all the necessary elements of the alleged offenses. This counters the defense's attempt to have the case dismissed at this stage, suggesting that the evidence presented is substantial enough to warrant a full trial.

The legal proceedings are ongoing, with the State maintaining its position that the evidence gathered is robust and sufficient to support the charges brought against the former government officials. The defense's applications are being considered in light of these submissions.
