Storm's communication failures were biggest challenge for emergency medical service, says director

Severe communication disruptions posed the greatest challenge for the Emergency Medical Assistance Service (NMPD) during the weekend's storm, according to its director, Liene Cipule. The storm's intensity led to widespread communication failures that hampered the NMPD's ability to operate effectively.

Cipule explained in an interview with Latvian Television's "Rīta panorāma" program that the communication problems were so severe that some NMPD brigades temporarily disappeared from radar. This loss of contact raised concerns about the safety and operational status of the medical teams.

The incident highlights the vulnerability of critical infrastructure and emergency services to extreme weather events.
