Storms wreak havoc in Romania: two injured in Târgu Jiu, homes flooded in Prahova

Romania is grappling with the aftermath of severe storms that have battered several regions, leaving a trail of destruction including flooded homes, damaged infrastructure, and injured residents. While weather warnings are gradually subsiding, the effects of the extreme phenomena continue to impact affected areas.

Prahova County remains one of the hardest-hit areas. Torrential rains have inundated numerous households, with water entering homes and destroying furniture, appliances, and crops. In the village of Pleașa, 12 people, including a child, were evacuated from flooded ground-floor apartments in a building by firefighters. These individuals are being temporarily housed at a local community center with support from the Bucov mayor's office.

Authorities have activated the Prahova County Center for Command and Coordination of Interventions due to an ongoing orange-level hydrological warning. Prefect Daniel Nicodim assured residents that their safety is the priority and that authorities are providing necessary support. In some parts of Prahova, water levels have exceeded one meter, making some areas accessible only by boat. Residents reported struggling to clean up from previous floods before new ones caused further damage.

Meanwhile, in Târgu Jiu, two men sustained injuries when a wind-felled tree crashed onto their car. Another tree fell on three parked vehicles in the same city, causing significant damage. The counties of Tulcea and Constanța have also experienced severe rainfall and remain under high-risk hydrological warnings, with authorities closely monitoring the situation.
