Sufi Scholar: Best Prayer is Asking for Strength to Obey God

According to prominent Sufi scholar Syekh Ibnu Athaillah as-Sakandari, the most virtuous prayer Muslims can offer is not for material wealth or personal well-being, but for the strength to adhere to divine commands and abstain from prohibitions.

DA Pakih Sati Lc, also translating Al-Hikam, notes that while people often pray for material gains, health, or protection from disaster, the most beneficial request is for the capacity to follow God's commands.

Whether it's performing daily prayers, fasting during Ramadan, or giving alms, fulfilling divine orders is presented as the gateway to God's favor, even if unexpressed. These commands and prohibitions are designed to save individuals from suffering and usher them into a realm of divine blessings. Therefore, believers are urged not to shy away from any divine instruction, as each is a portal to God's mercy.
