Sukoharjo Regent Etik Suryani Arrested in KPK Sting Operation

Indonesian anti-corruption investigators apprehended Sukoharjo Regent Etik Suryani and four other individuals in a sting operation on Thursday, July 9, 2026. The operation, conducted by the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK), targeted alleged extortion activities within the Sukoharjo Regency government.

KPK spokesperson Budi Prasetyo confirmed the arrests, stating that initial examinations were conducted at the Surakarta Police Station. The five individuals were subsequently transported to Jakarta for more in-depth questioning. Prasetyo indicated that the case involves allegations of extortion directed at regional officials within the Sukoharjo Regency. The KPK plans to further investigate the details of the extortion case as they gather more information from those apprehended.

Etik Suryani, born in Surakarta on March 15, 1963, has a background in economics and management. Before entering politics, she worked at Bank Bumi Arta Tbk for 27 years. She began her political career in 2007 and served as the Regent of Sukoharjo for the 2021-2025 term, with Agus Santosa as her deputy. In the 2024 regional elections, she was re-elected for the 2025-2030 term, this time with Eko Sapto Purnomo as her deputy. According to her 2025 report to the KPK, Suryani declared assets totaling Rp 9 billion, including land, buildings, and vehicles.
