Survivors Evacuated After Ferry Fire; Search Continues for Missing Passengers

A total of 111 survivors from the KM Mutiara Sentosa II ferry fire have been safely evacuated to Surabaya, East Java, Indonesia. The rescue operation, facilitated by the cargo ship Meratus Pematang Siantar, also confirmed the recovery of two deceased passengers.

Upon arrival at Tanjung Perak Port, the evacuated passengers received immediate medical examinations and care before being transferred to treatment rooms or temporary shelters. Families of passengers anxiously awaited news at the port, hoping for updates on their relatives aboard the vessel.

Tragically, Basarnas (the National Search and Rescue Agency) reported that at least five people have died, with 41 passengers still missing following the fire that occurred in the waters north of Madura. A comprehensive search operation is underway, involving Basarnas, the Indonesian Navy, Polairud (Water Police), KSOP (Harbor Master), and volunteer elements. The search is being conducted via sea and air to locate the remaining missing individuals.

Authorities and relevant agencies have established an information post at Tanjung Perak Port. This center aims to provide the latest updates to the families of the victims and support the identification process and care for the survivors.
