Suspect arrested for allegedly killing father and uncle, burying them in front of house

Dar es Salaam police have apprehended Hosamu Hamza, also known as Maopena, in connection with the alleged murder of his biological father and uncle. The suspect was arrested on Friday, July 17, 2026, around 3 PM in the Makongo area.

According to Faustine Mafwele, the Acting Commander of the Dar es Salaam Special Police Zone, officers found Hamza in possession of a knife with bloodstains, and his clothing also showed signs of blood. This discovery followed a tip from residents reporting the disappearance of two individuals who lived in the same house in Mwananyamala's Sindano Street, where blood was observed.

Forensic investigations identified the bodies of the deceased as Hamza Juma Omari, also known as Mautila (48), and Ally Juma Omari (37). Preliminary findings suggest that Maopena, the son of Hamza Juma Omari, is responsible for the murders and subsequent burial of the victims in front of the house. The exact motive for the killings is still under investigation.

Mwanahamisi Omary, the elder sister of the victims, expressed her deep pain and shock. "I forced myself to witness my relatives being exhumed, but what I saw, I cannot forget in my life. They were brutally murdered and buried. We don't know what was done to them before they were killed, but for now, we ask for justice to be served," she stated. She mentioned that the family lost contact with the victims on the night of July 17, as their phones were unreachable, which was unusual. Mwanahamisi also noted that Hosamu had previously claimed ownership of the house as an inheritance from his grandfather, a claim the family disputes.
