Suspect arrested in Argentina for Uruguay triple homicide

Authorities have apprehended an 18-year-old suspect in Argentina, believed to be involved in a triple homicide that occurred in Montevideo's Cerro neighborhood on May 24. The Ministry of the Interior confirmed the arrest, which followed intelligence gathering by the Homicide Department. The young man had reportedly fled to Argentina after the incident, prompting an international request for his apprehension.

The attack, which took place on the streets of Egipto and Estados Unidos, resulted in the deaths of a 35-year-old woman with a criminal record, a 29-year-old man, and a 23-year-old man. Two other individuals sustained serious injuries during the shooting. Police officials arriving at the scene found two men deceased and three others critically wounded, who were subsequently transported to the Hospital del Cerro. The woman later died from her injuries.

Investigations indicate that the location of the shooting was a known drug dealing spot under police investigation, leading authorities to hypothesize that the killings stemmed from a conflict between rival gangs. The suspect was apprehended at the port of Buenos Aires as he attempted to travel from Argentina back to Uruguay, according to the Directorate General for Combating Organized Crime and Interpol.

Gestures are now underway to extradite the individual to Uruguay, where he will face the justice system. In a separate operation, the Ministry of the Interior also announced the arrest of a 32-year-old man suspected of involvement in a robbery at a residential facility in Prado last week, during which two police officers were injured. This suspect, who has prior criminal convictions, was identified through intelligence analysis and evidence collection.
