Suspect Arrested in Forest One Week After Istanbul Street Murder

Nazir Ilgın, the suspect in the murder of Nilda Müge Şahin, was apprehended in a forest approximately one week after the fatal shooting. The incident occurred on August 5 around 00:45 in the Gülbahar neighborhood. Şahin and a friend had gone to Okmeydanı Training and Research Hospital, and afterward, they stopped at a pharmacy for medication. While Şahin's friend was inside the pharmacy, Şahin waited outside. According to reports, Ilgın, riding a black scooter with license plate 34 PJ 7763, allegedly opened fire on Şahin. He then fled the scene on the scooter. Şahin sustained two gunshot wounds to her back and two to her chest, leaving her in critical condition. Emergency services were dispatched to the scene. Despite initial medical interventions and transport to a private hospital in Şişli, Nilda Müge succumbed to her injuries.

Şahin's friend stated that they had noticed a person resembling Nazir Ilgın near the Okmeydanı Training and Research Hospital earlier but were unsure if it was him. After leaving the hospital, they went to the pharmacy, where the attack on Şahin took place. Investigations revealed that Şahin had filed a complaint against Nazir Ilgın with the Şişli District Police Department's Domestic Violence and Violence Against Women Prevention Bureau on July 27. The suspect was subsequently brought before judicial authorities and released under judicial control. A restraining order was issued against him, and it was served to him by Beşiktaş District Police Department officers on August 2. Despite this order, the suspect allegedly shot and killed his ex-girlfriend three days after the restraining order was served.

Further investigation uncovered that Nazir Ilgın has a criminal record including three counts of intentional assault, one count of insult and threat, and two violations related to the Law on Protection of the Family and Prevention of Violence Against Women, totaling six offenses. Following the murder, authorities from the Homicide Bureau and the Public Order Bureau launched an operation to apprehend the suspect. It was also revealed that Ilgın was facing charges for attempted murder in 2020 for allegedly assaulting and stabbing his former girlfriend, a nurse named Ceylan G. Although he was sentenced to 14 years in prison by the first instance court, the verdict was under review by the appellate court, and the finalization process was ongoing when this incident occurred.
