Suspect Dies in Hospital After Mannheim Stabbing Incident

Mannheim, Germany – Police are investigating the death of a 53-year-old man who was arrested after allegedly stabbing two people in an apartment in Mannheim's city center. The suspect collapsed after his arrest and died hours later in a hospital, prompting an autopsy to determine the cause of death.

Authorities were called to the apartment late Sunday night following reports of a stabbing. Responding officers found two severely injured individuals inside: a 26-year-old woman, who required emergency surgery after being resuscitated, and a 76-year-old man, who is in serious condition but no longer in life-threatening danger.

The suspect reportedly refused to comply with police demands to put down his knife and open the door, instead threatening to jump from a window. Given the indications of a violent crime, officers forcibly entered the apartment.

After his arrest, during which officers used "simple physical force" due to his resistance, the suspect collapsed. He was transported to a hospital, where he died a few hours later. Investigators are working to determine the man's motive and the background of the incident, with ongoing investigations into attempted homicide.
