Suspicious death in Pocitos: witness account offers key clue

Montevideo police are investigating a "suspicious death" after a 25-year-old man was found unconscious on the street in the Pocitos neighborhood late Monday night. Initially classified as a "sudden death," the case may have taken a new turn thanks to a witness statement.

The witness reported that the young man had been involved in a traffic dispute just minutes before he was found. The incident occurred around 9 p.m. on Avenida Brasil and Brito del Pino. Emergency medical services arrived at the scene and confirmed the man's death, but the witness's account has prompted a deeper investigation.

Scientific police and homicide detectives are involved in the case, awaiting a forensic report to determine the exact cause of death. The investigation aims to clarify whether the traffic incident played a role in the man's demise.

In a separate incident on the same night, police responded to a homicide in Cerrito de la Victoria. A 31-year-old man with no prior criminal record was found with a fatal gunshot wound to the chest. Witnesses reported seeing a man flee the scene in a gray car. Homicide investigators and forensic teams are working on this case as well.
