T.E.C. Opens New Penang Factory to Boost Southeast Asia Operations, AI Data Center Focus

Taiwanese tech giant T.E.C. (Taiwan Electric Appliances Co.) has officially inaugurated its new manufacturing facility in Penang, Malaysia. This strategic expansion into Southeast Asia is a significant step for the company, aimed at bolstering its supply chain for critical infrastructure, particularly for the burgeoning AI data center market and international cloud service providers.

The Penang plant is set to specialize in the production of armored busbars, a key component in power distribution systems. With an investment of approximately NT$370 million (around $11.5 million USD), the factory boasts an annual production capacity of 400,000 meters. This move underscores T.E.C.'s commitment to meeting the growing demand for reliable and advanced electrical infrastructure in the region.

While the new factory's opening is a positive development, the market's reaction on the stock exchange was mixed. T.E.C.'s stock price jumped significantly, reflecting optimism about future growth, especially in the AI sector. However, this surge occurred despite net selling by major institutional investors, including foreign funds, which warrants attention regarding potential stock price volatility.
