Tadej Pogačar leaves rivals trailing in his own race

Tadej Pogačar, the world's leading cyclist, demonstrated his exceptional form by decisively winning the points race at his own charity event, the Pogi Challenge, in Komenda. This marked the first part of a three-day benevolent gathering.

Pogačar amassed 22 points, comfortably outpacing his competitors, including former European champion Matteo Trentin and Luka Mezgec, both seasoned cyclists. The race, held on a course more suited to Pogačar's strengths, saw 39 riders competing over 35 laps covering 34.3 kilometers, with points awarded in every fifth sprint.

Despite a somewhat reserved start, Pogačar, supported by teammates Felix Grossschartner, Isaac del Toro, and Tim Wellens, maintained control of the race. After initially holding back, he secured victories in key sprints, ultimately finishing ahead of Trentin and Pascal Ackermann in the final sprint after breaking away from the main group.

Among the Slovenian cyclists, Matic Žumer also scored points, finishing fifth after winning the first sprint. Other Slovenians who earned points included Bor Ebner, Matej Mohorič, and Marcel Skok. The event drew a significant crowd of cycling enthusiasts eager to see their national heroes.
