Taichung Launches 'NO Rats' Campaign to Combat Rodent Infestations and Disease Risk

In response to reported Hantavirus cases in northern Taiwan, Taichung Mayor Lu Shiow-yen has announced the immediate launch of the 'Taichung NO Rats' campaign. This comprehensive initiative aims to proactively prevent rodent infestations and mitigate the risk of disease transmission, particularly as warmer weather increases pest activity. The program mobilizes nine city departments, including environmental protection, health, economic development, and civil affairs, to conduct thorough inspections and cleaning operations. From May 8th to May 20th, cleaning teams will prioritize markets and commercial districts, employing disinfection and chemical control measures where necessary. The Economic Development Bureau is focusing on 114 key locations, including public and private markets and night markets, to improve sanitation and seal potential rodent entry points.
