Taichung Mayor Lu Shiow-yen has thrown her support behind KMT candidate Chiang Chi-chen, jokingly stating their interactions, including hugs, have outnumbered his with his wife. The endorsement came as Chiang officially announced his bid for the next Taichung mayoral election and launched his "Flagship City Workstation: Taichung Urban Accelerator."

Lu expressed strong concerns about the upcoming elections, calling the 2026 local elections a "national vote of no confidence" and the 2028 presidential election a similar rejection of the current administration. She warned that the nation's progress depends on better governance, lamenting that despite public anger following a recall election, the ruling party has not changed its course.

The mayor sharply criticized the central government's policies, citing recent revelations about contaminated oil where officials allegedly discussed not recalling products containing up to 20% carcinogenic oil. She also pointed to relaxed pesticide residue standards for imported apples, allowing six times the previous limit for Fipronil, and the acceptance of potatoes with sprouts or rot, provided the affected parts are removed. Lu urged citizens to vote against the ruling party in the upcoming local elections on November 28th.
