Tainan's Yongkang Faces Severe Flooding; City Plans NT$340 Million Flood Control Measures

The Yongkang District of Tainan is grappling with severe flooding after torrential rains deluged the area with over 500 millimeters of precipitation in just 24 hours. The rainfall intensity approached levels seen during Typhoon Morakot, leading to widespread inundation across multiple locations.

In response to the crisis, City Councilor Lin Guan-wei has called on the Tainan city government to accelerate critical infrastructure projects. He specifically requested expedited coordination for the underground relocation of natural gas pipelines and the swift commencement of the NT$150 million Kun Da Road new box culvert construction.

To address the persistent flood issues, Tainan city officials are considering a substantial investment of NT$340 million. The plan includes the construction of an underground water retention pond and a multi-story parking facility. These measures aim to enhance the district's drainage capacity and mitigate the impact of future heavy rainfall events, ensuring better safety and resilience for residents.
