Taipei mayoral race begins: Hsu Po-yang to register with Tsai Ing-wen, Chiang Wan-an to lead KMT candidates

Taipei’s year-end mayoral contest is moving into the registration stage, with Democratic Progressive Party candidate Hsu Po-yang expected to register on Sept. 2 alongside former president Tsai Ing-wen.

The article says Tsai’s participation requires additional security planning because she is a former head of state, so the exact timing had not yet been released by Hsu’s campaign.

Incumbent Kuomintang Mayor Chiang Wan-an was reportedly set to accompany the party’s candidates on Sept. 3 at 10:30 a.m. Kuomintang officials confirmed that candidates had been told to keep that time open, but said it was not yet clear whether the registration would include a joint campaign event.

Chiang was also reportedly expected to attend questioning at the Taipei City Council later that day. On Sept. 12, he may appear with People First-style, or “white camp,” council members and candidates at an event for Taipei People’s Party council candidate Chang Chih-hao, potentially alongside party chairman Huang Kuo-chang.
