Taiwanese Pitcher Wang Yen-Cheng Earns Historic 10th Win in KBO, Praised by Opposing Manager

Taiwanese left-handed pitcher Wang Yen-Cheng, playing for the Hanwha Eagles, achieved his 10th win of the season on August 4th against the Samsung Lions. He delivered an outstanding performance, pitching six scoreless innings and striking out seven batters. This victory marks a historic achievement, making Wang the first Asian foreign pitcher in the Korea Baseball Organization (KBO) to reach double-digit wins in a single season.

Samsung Lions manager Park Jin-man recently lauded Wang's pitching prowess in an interview. He specifically highlighted Wang's skill in pitching to left-handed batters, noting his aggressive use of inner-corner pitches. "I haven't seen a left-handed pitcher utilize the inside for left-handed batters so effectively in a long time," Park commented. He added that facing Wang again would require significant strategic adjustments from his team.

Wang's dominant outing saw him throw 106 pitches over six innings, allowing only three hits and two walks while keeping the Lions scoreless. His team secured a 4-1 victory, propelling him to a tie for the league lead in wins with Im Chan-kyu of the LG Twins.
