Taoyuan Library's 'Highlights of Reading' Summer Program to Focus on Sound, Emotion

Taoyuan City Library is launching its summer reading program, "Highlights of Reading: Read Your Rhythm," which uses "sound" as an entry point to reading. The program connects the main library and its branches with various activities, including children's camps, podcast readings, YouTube live streams, celebrity salons, and special themed events. All events are free, though some require a deposit.

Library Director Shi Zhaohui stated that the series continues last year's spirit of "breaking reading frameworks" by focusing on "feeling through sound and understanding oneself through reading." This year's theme moves from "breaking frameworks" to "building self," with Social-Emotional Learning (SEL) as the core concept. The program combines sound expression, story reading, parent-child dialogue, and music appreciation, aiming to make reading a practice for emotional understanding, self-discovery, and building life resilience.

The children's camps, starting registration on June 12, will feature four interactive and educational activities. These include a "Children's Voice Expression Camp" at the main library, a "Go Thinking Camp" to foster concentration and critical thinking through chess, a "Mood Magic House" at the Longgang branch using music and games for emotional awareness, and a "Shadow Play Expressive Camp" at the Bade branch to spark imagination and creativity.

Additionally, the library is introducing a "Cloud Highlights Tuning Room" podcast hosted by Teacher Huang, featuring guests like writer Jiaozi and storyteller Vincent. A YouTube live stream will host speakers discussing parent-child communication and emotional education. Celebrity salons will include renowned picture book author Jimmy Liao, Go player Joanne Missingham, and voice actor Wang Ruiqin (Hana-chan). Various branches will also host themed activities with the Sidoroli Parent-Child Growth Team starting in July.
