Tashiev and 'Letter of 75' Appeal Hearing Postponed to August 13

The Bishkek City Court has postponed the appeal hearing concerning Kamchybek Tashiev and the "Letter of 75" case to August 13. The session was rescheduled because the lawyers representing the defendants have not yet had the opportunity to review the appeal filed by the Prosecutor's Office.

The defendants in this high-profile case include notable political figures. Among them are former State Committee for National Security (SCNS) chief Kamchybek Tashiev, Speaker of the Zhogorku Kenesh Nurlanbek Turgunbek uulu, and former Prosecutor General Kurmankul Zulushev. Additionally, five individuals who signed an appeal to the president advocating for early elections are also defendants: Bekbolot Talgarbekov, Kursan Asanov, Kurmanbek Dyikanbaev, Aaly Karashev, and Emil Uzakbaev.

In early July, the Pervomaisky District Court ruled that all defendants were guilty of attempting to seize power by force. Each was initially sentenced to four years in prison with property confiscation. However, these prison sentences were subsequently commuted to three years of probation supervision. Both the Prosecutor General’s Office and the defendants' lawyers appealed this verdict. The previous appeal proceedings were conducted behind closed doors.
