Teenager kills grandparents, five teachers in Thailand school shooting before suicide

A 14-year-old boy carried out a meticulously planned attack on Friday, killing his grandparents at their home before proceeding to his school north of Bangkok. There, he fatally shot five teachers and staff members and injured over 30 others before taking his own life, authorities reported.

Thai Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul, speaking from the scene at the prestigious Debsirin School in Nonthaburi, stated the shooting was "carefully planned." Initial investigations suggest the teenager suffered from "academic stress" due to alleged pressure from his grandparents to achieve high grades, according to the prime minister.

The attack began at the boy's home, where he killed his two grandparents, one of whom was a former teacher. He then went to the school, using a pistol belonging to his grandfather. While initial reports indicated student casualties, police clarified that all five deceased were teachers and school personnel. Nine individuals remain in critical condition among the more than 30 injured.

A relative of one of the deceased teachers, who asked to remain anonymous, told reporters that they did not believe there were any warning signs. "There was no problem (in his teaching). Everything was normal. There was nothing out of the ordinary," the relative said, adding that the deceased was the school's vice principal and had worked there for a long time.

The school, which serves students aged 12 to 18, will remain closed until August 17. The incident is the most severe in Thailand in nearly four years.
