Teenager Rescued From 25-Meter Well in Ponorogo

A 15-year-old boy in Ponorogo, East Java, was safely rescued from a 25-meter-deep well on Sunday morning after a concerning incident. The teenager, identified as Abimanyu, fell into the well while assisting his father in cleaning an old, previously rented house.

Family members raised the alarm when Abimanyu went missing during the cleaning activity. A search led them to discover him at the bottom of the well, which still contained water. The local disaster mitigation agency (BPBD) received the report around 9:00 AM WIB and promptly dispatched a rescue team.

The rescue operation required careful execution using vertical rescue methods due to the well's narrow diameter, less than one meter. According to Masun, the Head of BPBD Ponorogo, a rescuer had to be lowered into the well to secure the victim before extraction. The process took approximately one hour. After being brought to the surface, Abimanyu was immediately taken to the hospital for medical examination and treatment.

BPBD suspects the accident occurred because the well was undergoing repairs, a fact unknown to the homeowners after the property had been rented out for some time. Masun advised the public to ensure the safety of building conditions and to cover dangerous areas during renovations to prevent similar incidents.
