Tele2 begins using additional 700 MHz spectrum

Tele2 has started using additional 700 MHz spectrum it acquired at auction this year, adding 5 MHz to its network and bringing its total in the band to 10 MHz.

The company is currently using the new spectrum for 4G. Tele2 said the 700 MHz band can carry signals over longer distances and reach users more effectively inside buildings and in sparsely populated areas. It also expects the extra capacity to support growing mobile internet use.

Tele2 said it invested €11.7 million in network quality during the first half of 2026, almost 15% more than during the same period last year. The operator runs 1,630 base stations in Lithuania, including more than 1,190 with 5G capability. It said its 5G network reaches 90% of the population, while 4G reaches 99.99%.

Valerij Kovzan, Tele2’s technical director for the Baltic countries, said the company was already putting the newly acquired spectrum into service. He said the operator also bought a 20 MHz block in the 1,500 MHz band and extended its 2,100 MHz licenses this year.

Tele2 said Ookla’s Speedtest Intelligence data for the first half of 2026 ranked its 5G internet as the fastest in Lithuania. The company said it is also modernizing its 4G network by upgrading equipment and increasing base-station capacity.
