Teraju spearheads initiatives to strengthen bumiputera economy

The Unit Peneraju Agenda Bumiputera (Teraju) is actively working to bolster the economic development of bumiputera communities across Malaysia. The agency emphasizes a close, inclusive, and community-focused approach to meet local needs. Demonstrating this commitment, Teraju organized the Teraju Aspirasi Outreach program in Penang. This event served as a roadshow for the northern region, aiming to broaden access to information, increase awareness of bumiputera company development initiatives, and connect entrepreneurs with growth opportunities that can accelerate business scaling.

Teraju's Chief Executive Officer, Junady Nawawi, highlighted the agency's diverse initiatives launched this year to strengthen the bumiputera economy. Programs such as Ascend, Enhance, and Xcelerate are specifically designed to help bumiputera companies enhance their capacity, improve competitiveness, and accelerate growth in high-growth, high-value sectors. "Teraju's commitment is to bring bumiputera economic empowerment and development opportunities to the northern region, not just the central areas," Nawawi stated. Through strategic collaborations with major industry players like MMC and MRT Corp, Teraju aims to provide local entrepreneurs with broader access to financing, capacity building, and real-world markets.

Furthermore, Teraju has introduced the Bumiputera Strategic Acquisition Fund (BSAF). This initiative offers equity financing and structured facilitation designed to support strategic corporate actions by high-potential bumiputera companies. The BSAF aims to assist these companies in reaching their next stage of growth, including preparations for capital market listings (Pre-IPO), mergers, or strategic acquisitions. These efforts are in line with the aspirations of the Bumiputera Economic Transformation Plan 2035 (PuTERA35), which prioritizes the development of high-performing companies, increased productivity, and sustainable value creation.

The Northern Corridor, encompassing Penang, Kedah, Perlis, and Perak, is identified as a key economic region with strengths in manufacturing, technology, services, agro-food, and trade. Teraju views this regional potential as a significant opportunity for the inclusive growth of local bumiputera companies. The outreach initiatives also serve as a strategic platform to enhance awareness of PuTERA35's implementation, thereby supporting the targets of the Thirteenth Malaysia Plan (RMK-13) and the Madani Economy Framework.
