Tessa and Sanne Salomonsen to Perform at Copenhagen Light Rail Opening Festival

Passengers will soon be able to travel the full length of the Capital Region's light rail, from Ishøj to Lundtofte, as the final stations are set to open on August 22. The inauguration will be celebrated with a public festival at Gladsaxe City Hall, featuring performances by artists including Tessa and Sanne Salomonsen.

Currently, 12 light rail stations are operational, serving the route from Ishøj to Rødovre Nord. The upcoming opening will expand the network to a total of 29 stations, spanning across eight municipalities. The initial phase of the light rail commenced operation on October 26 of the previous year.

Region Hovedstaden, one of the light rail's owners, views this opening as the culmination of years of work. Regional council chair Lars Gaardhøj (S) stated that the light rail represents a significant enhancement for public transportation, deserving of a grand celebration. The light rail is jointly owned by Region Hovedstaden and 11 municipalities: Ishøj, Vallensbæk, Hvidovre, Albertslund, Brøndby, Rødovre, Høje-Taastrup, Herlev, Gladsaxe, Glostrup, and Lyngby-Taarbæk.

Following the opening, the light rail will operate during daytime hours on weekdays and Saturdays, with departures every five to eight minutes. The long-term plan is to establish stable operations with five-minute service intervals. Projections indicate that the light rail will carry around 14 million passengers annually by 2030. On the opening day itself, August 22, all rides on the new light rail will be free of charge.
