Thailand school shooting: At least six dead, over 30 injured

A 14-year-old student in Thailand is accused of killing at least six people in a school shooting north of Bangkok, following the earlier deaths of his grandparents. The teenager, who used his grandfather's pistol, also injured over 30 people, nine critically, before taking his own life, police reported.

Conflicting reports emerged regarding the victims. While initial statements suggested three teachers and three students were killed, the Thai Interior Ministry later stated that five school staff members and the alleged assailant died. The police confirmed the suspect was a ninth-grade student who fired 26 shots, with another 34 found at the scene.

This incident marks the second armed attack on a school in Thailand this year. The previous event in February resulted in the death of a teacher and injuries to a student.

Following the shooting, a Thai opposition leader urged a review of the country's gun control policies. "Although the motive for the attack remains unclear at the moment, an act of violence in a school institution - which should be one of the safest places in our society - represents a strong warning for Thai society to seriously and systematically review gun control measures," stated the leader of the People's Party.
