Third Anniversary of the "Ribnikar" Mass Murder to be Marked Tomorrow Outside the School and in Tašmajdan Park

Belgrade will tomorrow solemnly mark the third anniversary of the tragic mass shooting at "Vladislav Ribnikar" Elementary School. On May 3, 2023, a 13-year-old student tragically took the lives of eight girls, one boy, and the school's security guard. The memory of Mara Anđelković, Bojana Asović, Angelina Aćimović, Ana Božović, Adriana Dukić, Ema Kobiljski, Katarina Martinović, Sofija Negić, Andrija Čikić, and Dragan Vlahović will be honored through a series of commemorative programs.

Events are planned both in front of the school and within Tašmajdan Park. A section of Kralja Milutina street, adjacent to the site of the tragedy, will be designated a "space of silence." From 8:40 AM to 8:00 PM, citizens will have the opportunity to pay their respects at number 10, entering a book of remembrance, laying flowers, and lighting candles.

In Mali Tašmajdan Park, from 12:00 PM to 6:00 PM, art workshops titled "Trag beskraja u Vrtu vrlina" (Trace of Infinity in the Garden of Virtues) will be held, open to all who wish to participate. Meanwhile, Veliki Tašmajdan, around the monument to Desanka Maksimović, will host a "Prostor sećanja" (Space of Remembrance) from 8:40 AM to 8:00 PM. This area will feature artistic and programmatic content dedicated to the young victims and the school guard. The concluding program for the day's commemorations is scheduled for 6:30 PM in this space.

Adding to the ongoing impact of the tragedy, a new trial is currently underway at the Higher Court in Belgrade for the parents of the perpetrator. This follows the annulment of the initial verdict by the Appellate Court, which had sentenced Vladimir and Miljana Kecmanović to several years in prison. The legal proceedings continue to be a focal point, reflecting the deep societal impact and the search for justice and accountability in the wake of this devastating event.
