Three arrested attempting to steal brain-box from Lagos VIS van; manhunt launched for receiver

Operatives of the Lagos State Environmental Sanitation Corps (Lagos State Taskforce) have arrested three individuals accused of attempting to steal a brain-box from a Vehicle Inspection Service (VIS) van. The incident occurred at the VIS office located within the Taskforce headquarters in Oshodi, Lagos.

The arrested suspects, identified as Kazim Iyiola (46), Mohammed Rabiu, and Alhaji Musa Saleh (56), were reportedly caught in the act on Sunday. Authorities are also searching for a fourth suspect, known as Tony, who is allegedly involved in the illicit trade of stolen vehicle components.

I received complaints from top management and staff alleging that men posing as motor mechanics were disappearing with vehicle parts. I immediately put strategies in place to track them down.

According to CSP Adetayo Akerele, Chairman of the Lagos State Taskforce, the arrests followed numerous complaints about the disappearance of vehicle parts, including batteries, spare tires, and jacks, from parked vehicles at the Safety Arena. Akerele stated that the suspects targeted stationary vehicles, with Iyiola allegedly admitting to removing "two to three brain-boxes" on a good day.

Investigations are ongoing to ascertain the full extent of the suspects' alleged criminal activities and to apprehend the fleeing accomplice. The three suspects remain in custody pending further investigation and potential prosecution.
