Three arrested for teen's murder in Montevideo quarry, revenge suspected

A 12-year-old boy was murdered in the Parque Rodó quarries, and authorities have now formally charged two men and a woman in connection with the crime. All three have been sent to preventive detention for 180 days, facing charges of aggravated homicide. The woman is considered an accomplice, while the two men are co-perpetrators.

Police sources indicate that the victim was part of the Puglia criminal family, which is allied with Los Albín and in conflict with the Los Suárez gang over drug trafficking in Villa Española. This background leads investigators to believe the quarry attack may have been retaliation for a previous quintuple homicide in the El Monarca neighborhood. The investigation has been declared confidential, but this revenge motive is considered the main hypothesis.

During the incident at the quarries, which occurred amidst an illegal street race, five other individuals aged 14, 22, 26, 30, and 54 were injured. In response, the Homicide Department conducted eight raids in the Maroñas neighborhood, leading to the arrest of six people related to the quarry murder. Authorities confiscated four firearms, including a pistol, a revolver, and two rifles, along with shell casings and ammunition, all of which will undergo forensic analysis.

In parallel investigations, police also carried out raids in the La Chancha neighborhood of Montevideo, detaining eight individuals potentially linked to other homicide cases. These operations are part of an effort to clarify multiple homicides in the area, including the July 10 quintuple homicide in El Monarca. The Ministry of the Interior stated that these procedures resulted from extensive criminal intelligence and field work, including data analysis and territorial surveys.
