Three arrested in Bangladesh over alleged proxy exam racket for government jobs

Bangladesh's Criminal Investigation Department (CID) has uncovered an alleged racket supplying proxy candidates for government job examinations, leading to the arrest of three individuals. The operation targets a fraudulent scheme that helped candidates secure positions through deception.

The arrested individuals include Zulfikar Ali, 29, a junior assistant manager at the Matarbari Coal Power Project, who was recently recommended for the cooperative cadre in the 45th BCS examination. Also apprehended were Nurunnabi, 55, and Sohel, 40, both office assistants at the Tax Zone-2 under the Divisional Tax Commissioner’s Office in Agrabad, Chattogram. The CID announced the arrests on July 30, stating their involvement in the proxy examination scheme.

The investigation stems from a case filed over allegations of proxy examinees being used in a recruitment test for various posts under Tax Zone-Noakhali. The recruitment process, covering positions from grades 13 to 20, included written, practical, and viva examinations held in June. Initially, 112 candidates were selected, but discrepancies in handwriting between application forms and viva examination checklists raised suspicions during document verification.

CID's investigation revealed that an organized group was systematically providing proxy examinees for a fee. Three candidates, Kamal Uddin, Nasfurullah, and Sujon, have reportedly confessed to not personally taking parts of the recruitment process, with proxies appearing on their behalf. With the latest arrests, six accused named in the case have now been taken into custody. The suspects were presented before a court, as the CID continues its operation to dismantle the alleged racket.
