Pakistan's ruling elites have long viewed the country's geography as a strategic advantage, enabling it to act as a significant regional player. However, this location has also presented considerable liabilities, creating a persistent security dilemma.

This dilemma stems from a combination of factors: an overbearing eastern neighbor, contested colonial-era borders, the unresolved Kashmir dispute, a volatile neighborhood, and a western neighbor plagued by strife and foreign interventions. These elements have consistently driven Pakistan's pursuit of stability, particularly its long-standing strategic imperative to avoid confronting two 'hot fronts' simultaneously.

This imperative has profoundly shaped the nation's strategic thinking, security policy, and overall strategy.
