Three Security Guards Charged in Assault on Winnipeg Basketball Player

Three security guards have been arrested and charged with assault causing bodily harm following an alleged assault at a downtown Winnipeg nightclub. The incident, which occurred in the early hours of August 4th, left a 28-year-old man injured and requiring hospitalization. The Winnipeg Police Service confirmed the arrests of a 35-year-old, a 37-year-old, and a 58-year-old individual at police headquarters on Thursday. The assault reportedly took place at a licensed premise on Main Street. Adding a significant dimension to the case, the Winnipeg Sea Bears basketball team confirmed that their guard, Teddy Allen, was the victim of the assault. A social media video appeared to show Allen being removed from the club by security personnel. The team stated that the extent of Allen's injuries would prevent him from participating in the Canadian Elite Basketball League (CEBL) playoffs. Allen, who is a candidate for the CEBL MVP award and holds league records for points scored and three-pointers made in a season, expressed his dismay. "The assault on me should have never happened nor should it happen to anyone for any reason," Allen said in a statement. He added, "When I’ve been knocked down, I get back up which is exactly what I am going to do now." Allen hopes to return to play in the fall, but will be cheering on his team from home during the championship game.
