Thugs injure 10 PDP members in Ebonyi, party seeks security probe

At least 10 members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) sustained injuries after unidentified assailants attacked a political gathering in Ikwuator Idembia, Ezza South Local Government Area of Ebonyi State. The victims are receiving medical treatment following the incident, which occurred during a rally organized to welcome a former All Progressives Congress (APC) member, Ifeanyi Nworie, into the PDP.

Eyewitnesses reported that the attackers disrupted the event, initially planned for a village square, and subsequently followed participants to Nworie's private residence. During the assault, plastic chairs, canopies, a public address system, and other property were damaged. Journalists covering the event also reported being attacked en route to the venue.

The Ebonyi State chapter of the PDP condemned the violence, labeling it a threat to democratic participation. State Chairman Chukwuma Igwe alleged a pattern of intimidation against PDP members and urged security agencies, including the police and DSS, to investigate thoroughly. He called for the protection of all political parties to ensure a level playing field ahead of the 2027 general elections.

In response, the APC denied any connection to the attack. Ebonyi State Chairman Chief Stanley Okoro Emegha described the APC as a peaceful party and suggested that internal dissatisfaction within Nworie's political decisions might have fueled the violence. He emphasized that the state governor does not endorse violence and that APC members have been instructed to act peacefully.
