Thunderstorm Alerts Issued for Parts of Croatia Amid Heatwave Warning

Parts of Croatia are on alert for severe thunderstorms and heavy downpours as the week begins with variable weather. Yellow alerts have been activated for the Zagreb and Karlovac regions due to the risk of intense thunderstorms, prompting warnings for residents to exercise caution.

The Croatian Meteorological and Hydrological Service (DHMZ) forecasts localized showers with thunderstorms, which could be severe, particularly in inland areas this afternoon and evening. While winds are expected to be mostly light, coastal areas may experience moderate sea breezes. Maximum daily temperatures are predicted to range between 27 and 31°C.

Be on alert due to possible severe thunderstorms. Pay special attention to exposed areas such as mountains, forests, and meadows, or open terrain. Interruptions in outdoor activities are possible.

Looking ahead, the weather is set to become significantly warmer. From Thursday onwards, temperatures are expected to climb, often reaching hot conditions. The DHMZ anticipates an increased likelihood of a moderate heatwave over the weekend, especially in northern coastal areas. Daily highs could soar between 30 and 35°C, with warm nights, particularly along the Adriatic coast where temperatures may not drop below 20°C.

Authorities are advising people to be vigilant, especially in exposed locations such as mountains, forests, and open fields, where the risk of severe weather impact is higher. Warnings are also in effect for central and southern Dalmatia due to strong winds. The DHMZ noted that a ridge from the southwest will increasingly influence the weather towards the weekend, bringing hotter air.
