Tokyo Hosts Historic Formula E Night Races

Tokyo is set to host a unique double-header of Formula E night races this weekend, marking a first for the all-electric racing series. The event, held under the city's lights on a challenging street circuit, is highly anticipated as it represents a crucial stage in a closely contested season.

The 2.582-kilometer circuit, featuring 18 corners, winds around the Tokyo International Exhibition Center, known as Tokyo Big Sight. Its layout combines long straights with tight technical sections and fast, flowing sequences, making it one of the most demanding tracks on the calendar. This demanding nature promises an exciting spectacle for fans and a stern test for the drivers.

This weekend's races are the penultimate double-header before the season finale in London. The event holds special significance for the local Japanese teams, Nissan and Lola Yamaha ABT. Nissan, with driver Oliver Rowland being a favorite, aims to build on their success from the previous season, where Rowland secured a win and two podium finishes. Yamaha, having recently achieved their first victory in Shanghai with Lucas di Grassi, is looking to carry that momentum into their home race.

Spanish driver Kiro Pepe Martí of Cupra acknowledged the difficulty of the Tokyo circuit, describing it as "very complicated" and "very particular." He anticipates it might challenge his limited experience in Formula E but hopes to adapt. In the drivers' championship, Pascal Wehlein leads with 141 points, followed by Mitch Evans (132), Oliver Rowland (114), and Antonio Félix da Costa (111), with four drivers concentrating the majority of championship possibilities.
