Toyota unveils radical GRMN Corolla, its most extreme version yet

Toyota is pushing the boundaries of its performance lineup with the introduction of the GRMN Corolla, a highly radical iteration of its already potent GR Corolla. This new model, where GRMN stands for Gazoo Racing Meister of Nürburgring, represents a significant evolution, building upon the success of the GR Yaris and GR Corolla.

The GRMN Corolla is powered by the same 1.6-liter turbocharged three-cylinder G16E-GTS engine found in its siblings, but with key enhancements. Horsepower remains at 300 hp, while torque has been increased to 410 Nm in global specifications, and up to 415 Nm for the Japanese market. Toyota highlights that this torque boost is particularly noticeable in the mid-range, improving acceleration and flexibility during spirited driving. Notably, some of the engine's technological advancements originate from Toyota's hydrogen racing car development program.

Further emphasizing its track-focused nature, the GRMN Corolla adopts a two-seater configuration by completely removing the rear seats, a feature also seen in the limited Morizo Edition. This weight-saving measure, along with other optimizations, reduces the vehicle's mass by 30 kilograms. The car also features an extensive aerodynamic package, including additional air vents on the hood and fenders, new spoilers, and a five-stage adjustable rear wing, all developed with insights from Toyota's racing endeavors.

The performance enhancements extend to the chassis and drivetrain. The GRMN Corolla is equipped with new front and rear shock absorbers, a revised steering system, and further refinements to the GR-FOUR all-wheel-drive system. These changes aim to deliver even sharper handling and greater precision on the track. Complementing these upgrades are wider Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tires mounted on forged 18-inch matte bronze wheels, replacing the standard Michelin Pilot Sport 5 tires.
