Tragedy in Pirapó: Metal Object from Truck Causes Fatal Accident

A tragic accident in Pirapó, Itapúa, Paraguay, claimed the life of a 68-year-old woman on August 7, 2026. The incident occurred on route PY 06, kilometer 76, when a metal object, apparently ejected from a passing tractocamión, struck the victim's vehicle.

The victim, Gregoria Zarza Mattos, was traveling with Julián Giménez Barreto (55) towards Dr. Raúl Peña in the Alto Paraná department. According to Barreto's account to the police, the large truck passed them, and shortly after, a metal object flew out from between its wheels. The object violently impacted the windshield of their car, penetrating it and striking Mattos in the head.

Emergency services transported the victims to the Hospital de Capitán Meza. Tragically, Mattos succumbed to her injuries, which included severe skull trauma and loss of brain mass. Barreto, the driver, was unharmed. Police have not yet identified the tractocamión involved in the incident.

The case has been communicated to the Public Ministry for further investigation into the circumstances surrounding the fatal ejection of the metal object.
