Tragic accident in Jūrkalne: Young people in an "Alfa Romeo" drove at immense speed

A devastating accident in Jūrkalne, Latvia, has left a scene of destruction after a high-speed collision involving an Alfa Romeo. The car reportedly disintegrated upon impact, indicating an extremely high velocity at the time of the crash.

"The car has disintegrated into fragments – this indicates a huge speed. So the young people were driving very fast, which led to very tragic consequences," commented Oskars Irbītis, a traffic safety expert from CSDD, to the television channel "TV Kurzeme."

An examination of the crash site revealed that the passenger car was in the oncoming lane at the moment of impact. The truck involved was carrying an empty tanker, which, fortunately, prevented an explosion, a large-scale fire, and potentially more casualties.

Emergency services worked at the scene for several hours, and traffic on that section of the road was completely blocked until the afternoon due to the accident. The State Police have initiated a criminal investigation to determine the exact causes of the incident.
