Trainees Face Widespread Bullying and Sexual Harassment

The Trinidad Express sheds light on the pervasive issues of bullying and sexual harassment plaguing On the Job Training (OJT) employees. Joann David, the OJT director, revealed that a psychologist has been engaged to tackle these challenges, managing around 50 cases in three years. This disclosure came during a meeting on youth unemployment, where concerns about the protection of female OJTs were raised. David acknowledged that while placement and marketing officers serve as the first line of defense, some trainees fear reporting problems promptly. The program has since implemented measures, including hiring a psychologist, to provide a crucial support system. This initiative, born from observations of stress and anxiety among young workers, aims to offer better care and guidance. The report underscores the vulnerability of young people entering the workforce and the systemic issues that need addressing to ensure a safe and supportive environment for all trainees.
