Transjakarta to Serve Transportation to Thousand Islands Starting Next Year

The Jakarta provincial government has tasked PT Transportasi Jakarta (Transjakarta) with managing sea transportation services to the Thousand Islands, with operations set to begin in 2027. This move aims to streamline services that were previously handled by the Jakarta Transportation Agency (Dishub).

Governor Anies Baswedan explained that the decision to transfer management to Transjakarta stems from a desire to overcome bureaucratic inefficiencies that have hampered the current sea transportation system. He indicated that private or regional-owned enterprises often operate more effectively than government agencies in such services.

"Unlike private entities or regional-owned enterprises or the private sector. Therefore, we have decided that starting next year, it will be fully managed by Transjakarta," Baswedan stated on Tuesday in South Jakarta. The governor believes Transjakarta's operational model will lead to more optimized services for residents and tourists traveling to the Thousand Islands.

The current management by Dishub DKI Jakarta has been deemed suboptimal. By placing the service under Transjakarta, the provincial government anticipates improved coordination, efficiency, and overall service quality for this vital inter-island connection.
