Trial begins for fake beauty doctor in Vienna; patient nearly lost her nose

A trial has begun in Vienna against a 46-year-old German national of Iranian origin accused of practicing as a beauty doctor without a medical license. Operating from a prime location in the Austrian capital, she allegedly performed thousands of illegal aesthetic procedures, including Botox and hyaluronic acid injections, on patients between 2021 and 2023.

The accused faces charges of quackery, grievous bodily harm, fraud, and embezzlement. According to the Vienna State Prosecutor's Office, at least 54 victims have been identified, with the indictment covering 39 cases of severe bodily harm and numerous lesser injuries. Some patients have reportedly been left permanently disfigured, with one woman narrowly avoiding the loss of her nose.

Investigators revealed that the 46-year-old, who is described as a former unsuccessful architecture student with no medical background, allegedly worked with her sister, falsely presenting themselves as aesthetic medicine practitioners. The prosecutor stated, "She gambled with her patients' health – and with devastating consequences."

One victim, 50-year-old Snežana T., recounted experiencing immediate issues after her first injection and was assured by the accused, "Dear, we are all doctors, we know what we are doing." However, just two days later, Snežana required emergency surgery to prevent tissue death on her face. The 54 identified victims are expected to testify in the ongoing trial. The accused, who allegedly lived extravagantly, was arrested in Paris in May after fleeing Vienna. She has partially admitted to charges of quackery and causing injuries but denies financial fraud and embezzlement allegations. She was reportedly released on bail of 350,000 euros.
