Tropical wave in Dominican Republic brings increased rain

The Dominican Republic is bracing for increased rainfall as a tropical wave approaches the eastern part of the country. The Dominican Institute of Meteorology (Indomet) forecasts a significant rise in precipitation starting Tuesday, with the heaviest showers expected from midday through the afternoon and evening.

While morning rainfall will be scarce, the approaching wave, combined with a trough west of the island, will enhance cloud cover and lead to downpours in the afternoon. These rains could be moderate to heavy at times, accompanied by thunderstorms and gusty winds, primarily affecting provinces in the southeast, including La Altagracia, La Romana, San Pedro de Macorís, Greater Santo Domingo, Peravia, San José de Ocoa, Monseñor Nouel, and La Vega. Evening showers may extend to María Trinidad Sánchez, Duarte, and nearby areas.

For Greater Santo Domingo, Indomet predicts increasing cloudiness with localized showers, thunderstorms, and isolated wind gusts during the afternoon and evening. Residents are urged to monitor weather updates closely, particularly during periods of intense rainfall.

Despite the anticipated increase in precipitation, temperatures are expected to remain elevated across the nation. Indomet advises the public to stay hydrated, wear light-colored clothing, seek cool and ventilated areas, and avoid prolonged sun exposure between 11:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m., paying special attention to vulnerable groups like children, pregnant women, the elderly, and those with health conditions.

The unsettled weather pattern is expected to persist. For Wednesday, Indomet forecasts continued moisture and instability over the territory, with a trough likely to generate showers, thunderstorms, and gusty winds from early morning through the afternoon in various regions, including Samaná, María Trinidad Sánchez, Duarte, La Romana, San Pedro de Macorís, Greater Santo Domingo, and other provinces along the Caribbean coast. The diurnal heating combined with the trough may intensify rainfall, with more frequent thunderstorms and wind gusts in the northeast, southeast, the Cibao Valley, the Central mountain range, and the border zone.
