Truck carrying heavy equipment damages Jakarta overpass

A truck transporting heavy equipment became lodged under the Jalan Tendean pedestrian overpass (JPO) in Jakarta early Tuesday morning, causing substantial damage and rendering the structure unusable. The incident occurred around 1:00 AM WIB when the vehicle's load, identified as a bore pile machine, apparently exceeded the clearance height beneath the bridge.

The impact severely damaged the underside of the JPO. Police have cordoned off the area and are coordinating with the Bina Marga agency, which manages the overpass, for the truck's evacuation. The process requires heavy equipment like a crane and is expected to take time.

Traffic on Jalan Kapten Tendean experienced significant congestion, stretching from Warung Buncit to the Kuningan intersection during the morning rush hour. Motorists have been advised to avoid the route towards Blok M and use alternative paths.

Authorities have classified the event as a single-vehicle accident. While the JPO sustained considerable damage, no fatalities or injuries were reported. Investigations into the cause of the incident are ongoing. The bridge remains closed following the accident.
