Truck kills pedestrian, motorcyclist in Lagos-Badagry expressway crash

Tragedy struck the Lagos-Badagry Expressway as a reckless truck driver, reportedly speeding, caused the deaths of a pedestrian and a motorcyclist. The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) confirmed the horrific incident, which occurred near the Iyana-Iba Flyover, adjacent to the Lagos State University main gate.

Preliminary findings indicate the heavily loaded bucket truck was moving at excessive speed when it first struck and killed an innocent pedestrian. In a shocking display of disregard for life, the driver did not stop but continued his journey. This led to a pursuit by a motorcyclist and a sympathizer, who were attempting to make the driver face the consequences of his actions.

Tragically, the pursuit ended in further devastation as the truck driver violently collided with the motorcycle, resulting in the immediate death of the rider. While the accompanying sympathizer escaped unharmed, the driver was apprehended at the scene and handed over to the police. LASTMA General Manager, Mr. Olalekan Bakare-Oki, expressed profound grief, emphasizing that this incident serves as a stark reminder of the severe repercussions of reckless driving. He urged all road users to strictly adhere to speed limits and exercise extreme caution to prevent future occurrences.
