Trump Gives EU Ultimatum on Trade Deal, Threatens Tariffs

From Bratislava, SME reports on a stark ultimatum issued by U.S. President Donald Trump to the European Union concerning a trade agreement. Trump has set a tight deadline of less than two months for the EU to ratify a deal struck last year, threatening immediate and substantial U.S. tariffs should they fail to comply. This aggressive stance, communicated following a call with European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, underscores Trump's "America First" approach to international commerce. He expressed impatience, stating he had "patiently waited" for the EU to fulfill its part of the "historic trade deal" which promised zero tariffs on U.S. industrial goods entering the bloc. In return, the U.S. agreed to cap tariffs on most EU imports at 15%. The agreement, however, requires approval from the European Parliament. The article also notes that Trump and von der Leyen discussed Iran, agreeing on the need to prevent the Iranian regime from acquiring nuclear weapons.
