Trump rejects Iran's latest response to U.S. ceasefire proposal as 'unacceptable'

This strong rebuke follows Pakistan's delivery of Iran's reply to the United States. While Trump did not disclose specific details of the Iranian proposal, state broadcaster Irib indicated that Iran's terms focus on ceasing hostilities, including those in Lebanon, and guaranteeing maritime security. The news agency Tasnim further reported that Iranian negotiators are seeking a suspension of sanctions on Iranian oil sales. This development comes after the Iranian government had announced it was reviewing a U.S. proposal, described as a 14-point statement of intent designed to create a framework for initial 30-day negotiations to end the war. Reports suggest this framework might also pave the way for discussions on Iran's controversial nuclear program. The situation in the Strait of Hormuz remains tense, despite these diplomatic exchanges. While a Qatari LNG tanker recently passed through the Strait of Hormuz without incident—the first since the war began—and a Panamanian-flagged freighter navigated a route designated by Iranian forces, the region's security remains fragile. The UAE, Qatar, and Kuwait reported drone incidents or intrusions into their airspace on Sunday, adding to the precarious atmosphere. Both warring parties have continued to accuse each other of violating the ceasefire, underscoring the deep divisions and mistrust that persist.
